Our Location

You’ll find Brook Trout Inn in the scenic town of Sapphire, a true gem located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western NC, just a short drive away from upstate South Carolina, northern Georgia, and all points east in North Carolina. By car, we are approximately 15 minutes from Cashiers, 30 minutes from Highlands, and 40 minutes from Brevard.

Places to Go

Looking for a quick weekend getaway from Asheville, Atlanta, Charlotte or Greenville? Our central location makes us a great base of operations for exploring Cashiers, Highlands, Lake Glenville, Lake Toxaway and the other beautiful mountain towns of Western North Carolina. The Blue Ridge Parkway and Harrah’s Cherokee Resort & Casino are also just short scenic drives away.

Area Attractions

  • Land of Waterfalls: The unique geography of this area has given rise to more than 250 magnificent waterfalls. Many are accessible by foot while others you can simply drive right up to! At 811 feet, Whitewater Falls is the highest east of the Rockies and is just down the road from us.
  • State Parks: We are surrounded by national forests, and the area’s many state parks serve as the perfect introduction for exploring them. Gorges State Park is less than a mile away, with easy and well-marked hiking trails to Rainbow Falls and the natural waterslide of Turtleback Falls.
  • PARI (Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute): This world-renowned center for research and science education was initially developed by NASA in 1962. Visitors participate in hands-on activities and experience the center’s famous nighttime star-gazings.

Things to Do

Whether you enjoy walking the greens or sitting idly by the lake, the accommodations at Brook Trout Inn put you within arm’s length of both adventure and relaxation.

Spring and Summer are “high season” in the WNC mountains, which means you’ll never want for something to do. Nearby are championship golf courses and zip-lining courses that soar above the mountain canopy. The surrounding mountains are rife with well-marked hiking and biking trails, while crystalline lakes are perfect for a leisurely kayak outing.

Western North Carolina’s rivers are famous for excellent trout fishing, challenging rapids and gentle tubing trails. Join the thousands of anglers and whitewater adventurers who flock to this area to test their skills or simply spend a lazy day on the river.

Autumn is a special time in the mountains, as they come alive with flaming reds, brilliant oranges and stunning golds of the changing leaves. In the winter, nearby ski resorts offer snow-tubing and lessons, or you can curl up by the fire of our own lounge.
